Donna Milo: Marriage is Between A Man and a Woman

This afternoon I interviewed openly transgender, very conservative Donna E. Milo (audio below), who is running as a Republican candidate for Congress in Florida, seeking to unseat Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida's 20th Congressional district, which includes parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

On her website's issues page there is nothing about her positions on LGBT issues, though there is much about her very conservative views on issues like taxation and health care, issues The Miami Herald focused on in an interview.

While she confirmed to me that she is in favor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act ("of course"), it turns out she is opposed to marriage equality, giving the religious line on marriage being between "a man and a woman." On the issue of adoption Milo also believes that, though kids should go to gay and lesbian parents if it means they'll be in an institution, "traditional families" should have priority over gays. She also believes the government should not have a role in funding gender reassignment surgery for transgender people. It was quite an interview. Listen in.
