Today on The Michelangelo Signorile Show on SiriusXM PROGRESS ch.127

As indignation continues to mount on the right over the gun murder of a 32-year-old white woman named Kate Steinle in San Francisco last week, allegedly at the hands of an undocumented Mexican immigrant; Donald Trump, John Ellis "JEB" Bush, and Randal Paul have all used this opportunity to call for and an end to "sanctuary city" policies such as the one in San Francisco, which had allowed the alleged shooter, Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, to roam free despite an outstanding federal deportation order.   Yet, despite the claims being made by the right, evidence suggests that these laws don't just make cities safer for illegal immigrants; they make them safer for everyone.  Joining me today to discuss the reason why sanctuary city laws are so popular is Josh Harkinson, staff reporter at Mother Jones.  You can also follow Josh on twitter.

For the past six years, Colorado has conducted one of the largest experiments with long-acting birth control to see if teenagers and economically disadvantaged women would accept free intrauterine devices and implants that prevent pregnancy for years in an effort to decrease the number of teenagers having children as well as the number of women seeking abortions.  Joining me today to discuss the program and its startling results is Sabrina Tavernise, science correspondent for The New York Times who wrote all about it in the July 7th edition of the paper.  You can also follow Sabrina on twitter.
