In 2008, despite its ban on foreign journalist, Delphine Schrank entered the country of Myanmar (Burma) and spent the next four years secretly documenting the struggles of pro-democracy activists, detailing their efforts to bring their country out from under an oppressive military dictatorship and begin an irreversible process of political reform. Delphine joins me today in studio to discuss her book The Rebel of Rangoon: A Tale of Defiance and Deliverance in Burma, the country’s military dictatorship, and the everyday struggles of the citizens of the country. Today on The Michelangelo Signorile Show on SiriusXM PROGRESS ch.127
According to the
latest edition of The Southern Poverty Law Center’s annual report, “The Year in Hate and Extremism,” the
membership and reach of formal white supremacists groups is on a sharp downward
trajectory. However according to some
experts this is just because most people associated with the ideology have
simple chosen to move their hate to the internet and remain anonymous rather
than attend a traditional KKK rally.
Joining me today to talk all about the vast, hidden community of racial
hatred in America is Sacha Feinman,
senior investigative reporter for ThinkProgress. You can also follow Sacha on twitter.
