Archaic HIV Travel Ban On Bush's Desk

The Senate and House have approved repeal of our archaic law (we are just one of 12 countries such as Saudi Arabia, Libya and Russia with similar laws) banning people with HIV from visiting or immigrating here. The repeal, part of PEPFAR, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, is now on it's way to Bush's desk and is expected to be signed by him.

The ban, in effect since 1987 has kept families and partners of LGBT people separated and in turmoil all that time while serving no health benefit. Thanks primarily to HIV/AIDS activists it was generally deemed discriminatory and ineffective over a decade ago. Let's hope this nightmare is at least over.
