Today's Show: Portland Mayor Sam Adams

3:30pm EST: On Saturday, Houston became the largest city in the U.S. to elect an openly gay mayor, Annise Parker. Until now, the largest city to have an openly gay mayor is Portland, Oregon, which elected Sam Adams in November of 2008. In his first year, however, the national LGBT community didn't get a chance to know Sam Adams, as much of his time was consumed: Soon after taking office this year, Adams found himself embroiled in a scandal after he admitted to a relationship he'd previously denied with an 18-year old male intern who worked at the Oregon state legislature. There were calls for his resignation, and there were also many activists, locally and nationally, standing behind him. A recall effort failed to gather enough signatures. Sam Adams has moved on to the important issues facing Portland.

In his first national interview since the failure of the recall effort, Sam Adams joins us to talk about the events he's confronted and what the future brings.
