Gonzo Gone

Finally, Alberto Gonzales is out, but don't expect justice any time soon at the Justice Dept. The White House is putting out the name of Homeland Security director Michael Chertoff as his replacement. Bush didn't get rid of Gonzales sooner because of what might be uncovered by anyone the Democrats confirmed who might actually want to do the right thing.

Chertoff is already a loyal solider who will keep all the secrets and not turn over any more stones. Never mind that he is as incompetent as the rest of them and oversaw the national tragedy called Katrina. Unless the Democrats can make a big enough issue of that -- which certainly should be the case -- he will be in. Meanwhile, the White House will be in full swing to try to get Dems to drop all those pesky investigations.

Nonetheless, it is good that we no longer have a blatant perjurer as Attorney General. We'll be dealing with all of this on the show today, and we'll give Alberto a nice send-off. To think, both he and Harriett Miers (now refusing to comply with a subpoena, breaking the law) were Bush's idea of people who should be on the Supreme Court of the United States. That says it all.
