Sam Nunn Retreats on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
Former Democratic Senator from Georgia Sam Nunn told reporters on Tuesday that it's time to "take another look" at the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. This is clearly in response to the concern expressed by gay activists when Nunn's name popped up on lists as a possible VP running mate to Obama. Even Jimmy Carter now thinks Nunn would be a good choice!
We should be wary when a homophobe suddenly becomes less anti-gay just because he wants something -- like Bob Barr flip-flopping on marriage to get the Libertarian Party nomination. As I said in my first post on this, joining David Mixner, Wayne Besen and other activists, we should make it clear to Barack Obama that Nunn is completely unacceptable and not reflective of his vision of equality.
