Endless War for Everyone Pt. 3: Iran

We discussed this on the show on Monday, but a few details are worth revisting for sure. Writing for the New Yorker's regular feature on the "Annals of National Security" [ed: was Larry Craig promoted to the Senate Armed Serives Committe? Hey-o!] Seymour Hersh details our latest covert actions in Iran.

A recent Presidential Finding reports on all kinds of crazy clandestine activities within Iran- including authorization to kill people. We're sending in our people and also funneling weapons and money to various opposition groups in the country; including Sunni insurgent groups with alleged links to Al Qaeda. Of course, Congress keeps funding the operations (at the bargain price of $400 million per year) even though the Bush Administration/Pentagon/CIA aren't being totally forthcoming about where the money is going or what it's paying for.

But wait, it gets scarier:

A member of the House Appropriations Committee acknowledged that, even with a Democratic victory in November, “it will take another year before we get the intelligence activities under control.” He went on, “We control the money and they can’t do anything without the money. Money is what it’s all about. But I’m very leery of this Administration.” He added, “This Administration has been so secretive.”
That's right folks, even if we win we may not be able to stop this. Could it be that nothing short of an exorcism is going to purge our government of the drive for war with Iran?
