Good News, Bad News on Marriage
First the bad, which is not a shocker: The California Supreme Court today ruled that the ballot measure stays on the ballot for this fall.
In Massachusetts, meanwhile, it looks like the 1913 law there that was being used to ban marriage for many gays and lesbians from out-of-state is about to be repealed. Activists there used the economic boon of gay marriage in these economically-challenged times as an impetus, arguing that California was going to get the whole pie and that Massachusetts could make money on all those New York gays who might go there rather than head to California. Sure, wanting our money is not the most high-minded reason for them to give us our rights. But hey, whatever way works is fine with me.
