This year's Democratic Party platform may be the most pro-gay ever, but manages to do so without ever actually mentioning the words "gay," "lesbian," "bisexual," or "transgendered." We don't know if we're dumbfounded or impressed at the platform committee's creative use of the English language. Seriously, where did all those nouns go?
We have trouble wrapping our heads around the idea that the committee could call for the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy without mentioning the gays and lesbians who are directly impacted by the policy. Aren't gays and lesbians the reason the policy exists in the first place? So, none of this makes sense. It's like the DNC views us as some kind of abstract concept that deserves an inclusive non-discrimination law for the workplace, but can't acknowledge that in fact we are real people.
What do you think? We'll get into a discussion about it on the show today.
