The Evangelical Vote

This is really shaping up to be a "change" election. The latest group to go "up for grabs" are young evangelical christian voters.

The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that while a majority of young white evangelicals describe themselves as conservative on social issues, slightly more identified this year as either independents or Democrats than as Republicans.
This represents a tremendous shift from 2001, where an overwhelming number of evangelicals listed themselves as Republicans. Much of the shift has to do with generational differences over the GOP's positions on poverty, environment, and war. And yes, part of it also has to do with Obama talking about his faith "freely" and conducting outreach to evangelical churches. What do you think?
