Today on the Signorile Show

We are back live this afternoon and we have a lot to go over!

Police are currently scanning through surveillance video from the weekend to find out who left a Nissan Pathfinder filled with potential explosive materials in Times Square Saturday Night. Police are saying of the footage they've reviewed, "showed a white man who appeared to be in his 40s walking away from the area as he looked over his shoulder and removed a layer of clothing." We'll discuss the details this afternoon.

Late last week the Hawaii legislature passed a civil unions bill, surprising just about everyone. What will the Republican governor do at a time when the party is veering further right?

Spill baby, spill? For nearly two weeks, an oil rig off the coast of New Orleans has been leaking, a rig owned by BP. The president spoke near the spill yesterday, saying, “The oil that is still leaking from the well could seriously damage the economy and the environment of our gulf states and it could extend for a long time." And what does this mean for off-shore drilling? Will we just clean up and forget, or will this finally derail a dangerous industry that this president only weeks ago was courting? How much longer will the oil leak? What can we expect to see from BP regarding cleaning up this mess? Will the government have to jump in and help pay for the clean up? We'll go over this today.

A "devastating blow" to the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law is how Servicemembers Legal Defense Network described a letter to Congress in which Defense Secretary Gates advises against repeal of the law this year, saying that the review to lift the ban must be completed "before 'any legislative action' is taken by Congress." The Human Rights Campaign was forced to finally take the position of many of us which we've articulated for months, but is it too late? Protests continue. Yesterday, six people were arrested for handcuffing themselves to the White House fence in protest to get repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," while 100 others joined in support, including Lt. Dan Choi and former DNC Chairman, Howard Dean. Remember to check out SLDN's Stories from the Front Lines: Letters to President Barack Obama, written by soldiers who are affected by repeal, and send the stories to everyone you know!

Guest / 3:30pm EST - Pam Spaulding of Pam's House Blend will join us this afternoon to speak about Defense Secretary Gate's letter to Congress and the protest at the White House for repealing DADT yesterday afternoon.

Guest / 4:30pm EST - Author Garret Keizer joins us this afternoon to talk about his latest book, The Unwanted Sound of Everything We Want: A Book About Noise, in which he says noise as much about what we want as about what we seek to avoid.

There is more evidence of how Pope Benedict XVI, as Cardinal Ratzinger, covered up for child rapists. We'll get into it.
