Dem Congresswoman: ENDA on Five-Year Plan

(via Americablog) After we were told by House leaders that the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would be voted on last summer, and then, when it didn't happen, were told every two months after that -- and the latest, that we'd have a vote "in July" -- Congresswoman Jackie Spier (D-CA) now says it won't be until five years:

There's no question 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' will be history this year," she said. "ENDA, we will have that law for sure within the next five years." Speier, a Democrat whose district includes parts of San Mateo and San Francisco counties, said she was acknowledging reality. "I'm being realistic," she said.">"There's no question 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' will be history this year," she said. "ENDA, we will have that law for sure within the next five years."

Sounds to me like she slipped and told the ugly truth we have all believed to be true: The Democrats, and President Obama, have no intention of moving forward on LGBT rights. The only reason we got the DADT repeal compromise -- which, unlike Spiers suggests, doesn't guarantee DADT will be "history" this year -- is because we pushed hard and GetEqual activists protested at the White House and the president's speeches. We're going to have to keep pushing them against the wall -- and withholding money from the DNC.
