4:05pm ET - Last Wednesday, the
Supreme Court heard arguments in Peggy Young v. United Parcel Service. At
its core this case is about the extent to which the federal Pregnancy
Discrimination Act of 1978 requires employers to accommodate the health needs
of pregnant women? But according to Nina Martin, a Gender & Sexuality Reporter for ProPublica, the potential repercussions of this gender rights case
could be both complex and wide-ranging.
She joins us today to discuss the case and what the possible outcomes might
mean for women across the country. You can also follow Nina on twitter.
4:35pm ET - In the early morning
hours of Halloween, 22-year-old Dionte Greene was shot and killed in his still-running car in Kansas City, MO.
Dante, who was gay, was allegedly waiting to meet another man for the first
time that he had been talking with online.
Despite the fact that his friends and family insist that his murder was
the result of a hate crime, the police refuse to investigate it as such,
which raises some complex questions about race, class, police conduct and
sexual taboos. Joining us to discuss the
killing of Dionte Greene and why it is not being called a hate crime is Zach Stafford, who wrote about the murder
for theguardian.com. You can also follow Zach on twitter.
