4:35pm ET - Just as polio stalked the 1950s, and AIDS overshadowed the 1980s and ‘90s, post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD has haunted the early part of the twenty-first century.  After over a decade of America’s “global war on terror,” PTSD afflicts as many as 30 percent of our returning veterans.  However, the disorder’s reach extends far beyond the armed forces, affecting some twenty-seven million Americans, yet to most of us, the disorder remains shrouded in mystery, secrecy, and shame.  Joining us today to discuss his new book The Evil Hours: A Biography of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is David J. Morris, a war correspondent and former US Marine who drew upon his own struggles with post-traumatic stress, interviews with people living with it, as well as the scientific, literary, and cultural history of the condition to craft a moving work that speaks not only to those with PTSD and their loved ones, but to all of us struggling to make sense of this complex problem that is increasingly affecting more and more Americans.

David will be speaking tonight at 7pm ET at Word Bookstore in Brooklyn, NY more info here.
