4:35pm ET - It has been one
hundred years since drugs were first banned in the United States and over 40
years since President Nixon declared drug abuse "public enemy number
one", and yet after all this time and all the money spent, it seems we are
no closer to dealing with the problem of drug addiction in our society then we
were one hundred years ago. This
realization led journalist Johann Hari
to set off on a three-year, thirty-thousand-mile journey into the war on drugs,
and what he found is that more and more people all over the world have begun to
recognize three startling truths: Drugs are not what we think they are.
Addiction is not what we think it is. And the drug war has very different
motives to the ones we have seen on our TV screens for so long. Johann joins us today in studio to discuss
his new book Chasing The Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs. You can also follow Johann on twitter.
