The Michelangelo Signorile Show on SiriusXM PROGRESS ch.127

Yesterday, a federal appeals court in San Francisco ruled that the 2nd Amendment does not guarantee the right to carry concealed weapons in public places, the ruling upholds a California law that imposes stringent conditions on who may be granted a concealed-carry permit. The decision is being hailed as a major victory for gun control advocates, and joining me today to talk all about the ruling and what the likely impact on the 2nd amendment would be if the case went all the way to the Supreme Court is Adam Winkler a professor of law at UCLA School of Law

Over the past decade a new and controversial energy extraction method known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has rocketed to the forefront of U.S. energy production. With fracking, millions of gallons of water, dangerous chemicals, and sand are injected under high pressure deep into the earth, fracturing hard rock to release oil and gas.  In her new book Frackopoly: The Battle for the Future of Energy and the Environment Wenonah Hauter, the founder and executive director of Food & Water Watch, argues that not only has this rush to fracking been dangerous to the environment it has been treacherous to human health. In the book she describes how the fracking industry began; the technologies that make it possible; and the destruction and poisoning of clean water sources and the release of harmful radiation from deep inside shale deposits, creating what she calls “sacrifice zones” across the American landscape, and Wenonah joins me today on the show to talk all about the book and what you can do to protect the environment and ensure a healthy and sustainable future for all Americans.
