The Michelangelo Signorile Show on SiriusXM PROGRESS ch.127

In the wake of the horrific events Orlando over the weekend there has been a renewed discussion of our current gun laws and the ways in which they provide dangerous people with easy access to assault weapons and joining me today to talk all about the attack and how Congress should act in response to it is Congressman Mark Takano who represents California’s 41st Congressional District.

In the wake of the of the horrific shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando over the weekend, the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, took the opportunity to renew his call for banning Muslims from coming to the United States, and we have also heard countless conservatives talking about the evils of Islam and the alleged connections the faith has with terrorism, while at the same time extolling the virtues of Christianity and claiming it is a religion of love of peace.  However, according to Elicka Peterson Sparks an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Appalachian State University this is neither true nor historically accurate.  In her new book The Devil You Know: The Surprising Link Between Conservative Christianity and Crime she argues that high rates of violent crime in the United States can be correlated with Christian conservative attitudes, especially in regard to social mores and politics and she joins me today on the show to talk all about it.
