Last week the nation
was shocked when a man armed with an easily acquired military assault rifle
ambushed members of the Dallas Police Department while they working to protect
a peaceful protest in the city. Joining
me today to talk all about the shooting, its aftermath, and what we need to do
in order to move forward as a nation and address the root causes of these

Next week, the city of
Cleveland will host its first big political convention in 80 years and in
preparation for the big event the city has taken a number of steps to prepare
for a number of possibilities and situations.
From emptying the city jails and keeping its courts open until 1 a.m. in
case of mass arrests to spending tens of millions of dollars on riot gear,
handcuffs, body cameras for their police department. Joining me today to talk all about the
preparation the city has undertaken is Mary Jordan a national correspondent for the Washington Post who has been covering the 2016 presidential campaign.
Last summer when actor,
singer, producer, and author Chris Colfer who gained international recognition for his portrayal of Kurt
Hummel on the hit television series Glee,
released the 4th book in his bestselling series The Land of Stories it landed at #1 for two consecutive
weeks on the very competitive New York
Times children’s series list, outselling all the other major franchise
series including Harry Potter,
Maze Runner, Divergent, Star Wars, and Diary
of Wimpy Kid. Now, he is back
with the 5th installment of the series tilted An Author’s Odyssey
which was released yesterday. The series
follows twins Alex and Conner as they magically travel through a cherished book
of stories and have adventures in a land where they come face-to-face with the
fairy tale characters they grew up reading about. Chris also has a cameo appearance in the
upcoming Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie which
is out on July 22.
Yesterday, on the one
month anniversary of the mass shooting in Orlando, congressional Republicans
held a committee hearing to discuss legalizing discrimination against LGBT
people in the United States. Despite repeated calls to cancel or postpone the
hearing, Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) refused to do so and instead decided to
mark the anniversary of one of the worst attacks on LGBT people in this
country’s history by choosing to discuss how best to deny them equal rights and
protections under the law. The hearings
concerned the so-called “First Amendment Defense Act” which would allow
businesses and individuals to deny service to LGBT people and just about anyone
else if they cite their religious beliefs.
Joining me today to talk all about this horrendous bill and what it says
about House Republicans is Rep. Mark Pocan who represents the 2nd Congressional District of Wisconsin.
