Out Sick Today -- and Some Hell Breaks Loose

I got some kind of bug and am not doing the show today; a "best-of" is running. I'm at home watching all the breathless coverage -- with little details -- of the jarring news regarding Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York.

He has not resigned yet (gave a statement a little while ago), and now the Republican Governors Association is already calling for him to step down. Meanwhile, Larry Craig and the rest of the immoral and unethical Republicans are still in office. Of course, I'm also thinking of how New York State is one seat away from taking over the State Senate from Republicans, and Spitzer and the State Assembly are pushing a marriage equality bill for gays -- which won't get through until they take over the State Senate. Will the Repubs use this to turn all of that around? Was the the federal government -- Bush administration, with all of its Rovian tactics -- and FBI working with local Republican leaders and all those Wall Street titans who were furious at Spitzer? Of course, it was all stupid of Spitzer, got himself on a wiretap knowing how obsessed this administration is about surveillance. Lots of questions.
