A Lot of Work To Do

Today I had a few more heated discussions with listeners who claim they will vote for John McCain. Like Steven in Pittsburgh from yesterday (and I will post some of that in video this weekend), another gay man called (agreeing with Steven, after I played a few clips from my discussion with him) saying he would support McCain because he will transform the Republican Party and make it more pro-gay. This, even though McCain is against repealing the Defense of Marriage Act, against repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell and against both the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

Then, Jay is Florida -- long-time listener -- called and explained that he too, like a caller from last week (Steve in Needles, CA) is a Clinton supporter who is now shifting to McCain because he "just doesn't know" Obama. We went at it pretty good.

I think it shows the challenge ahead of us and the work we have to do. These conversations, heated and angering as they can be, are important, because we've got to hash this stuff out. But it's not going to be easy!
