Memo to Don Imus

Oh, Don, why must you put your racist foot in your racist mouth yet again? Or are you? We all know you don't have the best track record when it comes to talking about race, but maybe you are being taken out of context this time. Also, it doesn't help that you are genuinely not funny or insightful so it should come as no suprise that your latest on-air exchange has generated a lot of controversy:

During an on-air conversation Monday about the arrests of suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones, Imus asked, "What color is he?"

Told by sports announcer Warner Wolf that Jones, who used to be nicknamed Pacman, is "African-American," Imus responded: "There you go. Now we know."
Sigh. Imus maintains that he asked "what color " Jones is to point out that he is being picked on because he is African American. Well, then, why not say "Adam Jones is being picked on because he is African American?" What do you think? We'll be getting into a discussion of Imus might have meant and whether it's being misrepresented. Should be interesting.
