Maliki: Get Out Now
White House: "That's a Transcription Error"
It's not a surprise to learn that the Iraqi prime minister now wants us gone:
While traveling in the United Arab Emirates, Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said “The current trend is to reach an agreement on a memorandum of understanding either for the departure of the forces or to put a timetable on their withdrawal.”
But now the Bush administration -- after Bush has maintained for quite some time that the U.S. would pull out if the Iraqs asked -- is claiming there was some sort of "transcription error" in what Maliki was reported to have said. Yes, he really didn't say that -- it just sounded like that. Besides, timetables are "artificial."
