Here I am flanked by Army Sergeant Darren Manzella on the left, and Virgina openly gay legislator, State Delegate Adam Ebbin , on the right. Sgt. Manzella, an Iraq war veteran and an exemplary officer, is well known for his having come out as gay on "60 Minutes" back in January, explaining that all in his command knew and accepted him. It wasn't until months later that the Pentagon moved to discharge him under "don't ask, don't tell," so reluctant were they to lose such a fine and talented officer.
Manzella, who is now working with Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, came on the show on July 11, just before we left for vacation, and he was accompanied by Adam Ebbin, who was helping out in working with the press on Darren Manzella's behalf.
I meant to post this before we left for vacation, but didn't get a chance. Once again there are no listener survey comments to post this week -- which I usually do on Saturday -- because I didn't read any on the show during the week. We had so much to catch up on after a week's vacation that we didn't get any time. I'll read some on Monday and post those next week here.
