3:35pm ET - According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about 42 million Americans smoke
tobacco and research has shown that their death rates are two to three times higher
than those of people who have never smoked, and that on average, they die more
than a decade before nonsmokers. But,
however bad you thought smoking was it gets even worse. According to a new study based on research
from the American Cancer Society, scientists from four universities and the
National Cancer Institute there are at
least five additional diseases and 60,000 deaths a year that need to be added
to the current toll taken by tobacco in the United States. Joining us today to discuss the study which
was published in The New England Journal of Medicine is Brian Carter an
Epidemiologist with the American Cancer Society who was one of the authors of
the study.
4:35pm ET - This week, it was reported that David Axelrod, in his new book Believer: My Forty Years in Politics, suggested that Barack Obama misled voters in 2008 on his same-sex marriage position, which caused President Obama, in a subsequent interview, to walk back his former adviser’s comments. Joining us today to discuss the story of President Obama’s public evolution on marriage is Kerry Eleveld the former White House correspondent for The Advocate who wrote a piece for Politico all about it.
