U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has announced that she will re-introduce legislation to remove legal barriers to adoption by LGBT parents. The Bill known as the Every Child Deserves a Family Act would prohibit any entity that receives federal funds from discriminating against adoptive or foster parents based on sexual orientation, gender identity or marital status. With so many children across the US in need of homes and with so many loving LGBT people wanting to open their homes and hearts to children in need this bill is more important than ever. Joining me today to discuss the bill is Senator Gillibrand.
Today, voters in the Republic of Ireland are taking part in a referendum on legalizing same-sex marriage. The historic referendum is being held 22 years after homosexual acts were decriminalized in Ireland, and five years after the government enacted civil partnership legislation, which provided legal recognition for gay couples. Joining me today to discuss the referendum and the fight for marriage equality in the emerald isle is Cahir O'Doherty, arts editor and feature writer for The Irish Voice, Irish America magazine and IrishCentral.com.
