According to some of the most recent census projections, by the year 2044, white people in America will be a minority population group; and as the demographics in the country rapidly change, the question of how our political system will meet the needs of and capitalize on this more diverse electorate remains.  In his new book Brown is the New White: How the Demographic Revolution Has Created a New American Majority Steve Phillips takes a look at how this changing racial environment effects politics and argues that the Democratic Party and progressive movement need to place more emphasis on rallying voters of color and progressive whites instead of focusing on white swing voters.
