Mars finally pulled their latest in a series of juvenile homophobic ads to promote their wholesome testosterone filled Snickers bar, after some talks with the Human Rights Campaign.
On Wednesday we interviewed Bob Garfield, Ad Age columnist and co-host of NPR's 'On the Media.' He had just penned that open letter lambasting ad agencies for selling products by exploiting homophobia, and focused specifically on the Mars Snickers ad.
Then later yesterday Virginia-based Mars Inc. issued a statement saying the ad featuring Mr. T firing Snickers bars from a machine gun at a blond ass-wiggling male jogger and taunting him to get some nuts, was meant to be funny and has been received well there. In Virginia? Nah. Can't be.
So now, while we wait for their next round of homophobic family-oriented ads maybe MARS can work on renaming those damn Starburst "Fruity" Chews.
