Palin's Antigay Nominee Rejected

Sarah Palin suffered a big loss as the Senate and House for the first time in Alaska history rejected the governor's attorney general nominee yesterday.

Anthony Wayne Ross (whose initials," WAR," graced his license plate, while his wife's plates blared "MRS WAR") had refused to disavow his statements that gays are "degenerates" and "immoral" and he'd called abortion "killing kids," among other things:

"I believed I knew what Alaskans wanted when I selected an individual who is a strong backer of Second Amendment rights, a staunch supporter of the state Constitution and a defender of life," Palin said in a statement.
"I'm surprised that legislators in this case really did not seem to represent their constituents and allowed themselves to be swayed by side issues," she said.

Mostly, it seems many Democrats who previously worked with her on issues as well as members of her own party are sick and tired of seeing Palin posturing for national office, supporting wingnuts and not accomplishing anything in this session in her state. As the news came down, she was in Indiana, speaking to an antiabortion group!

Meanwhile, Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele, at that very same antiabortion event in Indiana with Palin, called Palin one of the party's leaders, which will certainly fuel some of the speculation -- which you might remember I was presented with on CNN a couple of weeks ago, responding with a laugh -- that they might run together, a Palin-Steele 2012 ticket:

During a news conference before the dinner, Steele cited Palin among other prominent party figures, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and two congressmen, Eric Cantor and Mike Pence.

Boy is this going to be fun.

Where They Will Go

Okay, the best answer to the question posed yesterday, right here and on the show, was actually, I'm told, something that Tim Robbins said but I cannot find it anywhere: They will all move to Alaska, which figures prominently in some Pentecostal sects as the "last refuge" during or after the "rapture," and they will join the secessionist group, the Alaska Independence Party, of which Todd Palin is a member. They will then secede from the union, and become their own country, with Sarah Palin as their leader.

Though, one listener points out that Albania and Madedonia are good second and third choices, since they're the only places in the world where John McCain seems to have some real support.

The Anchorage Daily News, in addition to endorsing Obama, also points out the realities for Sarah Palin upon returning back to Alaska, after having been handled and made into a partisan pit bull and after some changing realities in the state. Not pretty.

$150,000 -- Amount the Republican National Committee spent on clothes for Sarah Palin at stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue

$21,012 -- Amount Palin charged the state for travel by her daughters on "official" state business

2 -- Nights that Palin's daughters spent at state expense in a Fairbanks hotel so they could be present when dad finished the Iron Dog snowmachine race

$707 -- Cost the state paid, per night, for the New York City hotel where Palin and her daughter stayed

0 -- Times Tony Knowles says he billed the state for "official" travel by his school-age children during his eight years in office

$17,000 -- Per diem Palin collected from the state when working from her home in Wasilla instead of Juneau

$0 -- Federal taxes the Palins have paid on that per diem or state reimbursements for their daughters' travel

55% -- Respondents who said Palin was not qualified to serve as president if necessary, according to an Oct. 22 poll

As they waited for the supervisor on duty to appear, the employee who had called them 'faggots' started arguing with them, repeatedly calling them 'faggots' in front of other customers and calling one of them a 'c**ksucker' and 'bitch.'"
