Homosexuality = Murder?

That's what a Colorado Republican crackpot claims in the latest outburst from the mini-ayatollahs on the right. Really, there is quite a pattern developing here, with Oklahoma's Sally Kern having called homosexuality more dangerous than terrorism, state senator Chris Buttars in Utah having concurred last week and Charlice Byrd, a Georgia Republican legislator trying to stop professors from teaching about human sexuality -- including of course homosexuality -- in to full-grown adults at universities in that state. Not sure if it's their last gasp or not, but we're seeing these eruptions all over the place. The Colorado guy, State Senator Scott Renfroe, also thinks women should be serving men:

Renfroe called homosexuality an "abomination" and an "offense to God" and argued that God created men and women so they would procreate.

He compared the nuclear family structure to the Holy Trinity and, quoting the book of Genesis, said women had been created to be "helpers" for men.

Sally Kern: The Video

We did so many interviews at the Republican National Convention that I lost track of what I had, and on what equipment, or how good the quality was, as we were juggling so much stuff. We were using our audio recorder for the show, digital cameras, Iphone cameras and a camcorder for video, and it all became overwhelming down on the packed floor at times.

So it was a nice treat to go through the camcorder over the weekend and find the Sally Kern interview (which we've played on the show) pretty much intact on video as well. The sound quality goes out for a brief moment or two, and it doesn't include the very end, where she mentions that "Siganorelli" guy. For that you'll have to check out the audio clip I posted. But otherwise, it's a gem.

For those who might need a refresher, Sally Kern is the Oklahoma legislator who made national headlines when she said homsexuality is a worse threat than terrorism. She also was caught a couple of times carrying a loaded gun into the state capitol.

Here's the video, in two parts. I began by asking her how she felt about the Log Cabin Republicans endorsing John McCain (you don't hear my first question but the audio is pretty good from then on).

The Kern Interview

We played the full Sally Kern interview on the show today. Lots of people called in, blown away by the sheer lunacy of this woman, and the fact that she and her kind are pandered to in the Republican Party. It was an 11-minute interview; here are couple of minutes toward the end, when she mentioned that "Siganorelli" guy -- and remember, I introduced myself by name when I went up to her.

Well, the Republican drag worked! I ran into wacko theocrat Oklahoma state lawmaker Sally Kern over at the Oklahoma delegation, and she didn't realize it was me, even though I introduced myself by name. She even mentioned at the end of our interview, while I took a picture with her, that she had a bad experience on Sirius, with "whatshisname, Michael Siganorelli or something like that." Wait until you hear the interview. I'll post some of it too, and I'm definitely posting the Roberta McCain audio -- we've got to get that far and wide!
